The Memorial Gingko Tree

Gingko trees have a special significance in our family. It all began probably 16 years ago when my brother and sister in law gave my mother and father a gift of a picture for some occasion. The occasion isn't important. What is important is the picture and the frame. It was a picture of my brother's daughter when she was about 18 months old. (She's almost 17 now.) She was sitting on my father's lap and he was reading to her. The frame came to be even more important because embedded in the glass all around the frame were gingko leaves.

Conservatory Getaway

The glistening white of a Minnesota winter is majestic and beautiful to me, for a while anyway.  But all of a sudden there's this strong desire, maybe even necessity, to see color!  Even green or brown might suffice.  St. Paul, MN. has the ultimate remedy for someone in my condition, when flying south is not an option.

The conservatory at Como Park Is the perfect vacation from 'white', or any time of the year.  A few weeks ago, I escaped to Spring!  I'm always intrigued by the new displays and the feeling you get as you enter each of the different gardens.

The Creation of Spider Island at the Chicago Botanic Garden

The Chicago Botanic Garden is one of the loveliest botanic gardens I have ever had the chance to see. Although its name would make one think that it is in Chicago and that it is owned by the city of Chicago, neither is the case. The land on which the Botanic Garden is located is land that belongs to the Cook County Forest Preserve. Chicago happens to be in Cook County. The gardens are located in Glencoe Illinois. The woodier areas of the garden and the areas that have been allowed to remain in their native state are visible from the Eden's Expressway.
