My maternal great grandmother was called grandma Savannah by everyone except my mama Bennie her daughter. She was all of 4'8" maybe less, dark skinned, petite and loved me a lot.
I spent many nights with her but was afraid to sleep in the back bedroom because she had a fox stole on the door. My paternal grandparents lived a block away so my aunt Mary, six months younger than myself always spent the night with me. We were aunt and niece and good friends.
First off let me say that I wasn't going to write an article today. But in honor of Wes, better know as Treeman, I couldn't resist. When reading what today is, one article popped up in my mind and I had to chuckle. Today, May 20th is Pick Strawberries Day. It had only been a few minutes since I read Wes's article about Strawberry Shortcake and sewer problems. Only Wes could get away with
Today is the third Saturday of May, Armed Forces Day (AFD). On August 31, 1949 Louis Johnson then Secretary of Defense announced that Armed Forces Day was created to honor service members in the five branches of service, Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard.

As I sit here in the relative comfort of my not cool enough home (my husband sets the air conditioner to a temperature that is way too high for my comfort,) I see that the temperature outside right now is 94 degrees. If you add the heat index to the temperature, it feels like 109+ outside and it's not all that humid. I'm writing this to warn you all about not heeding your body's warnings when the weather is hot outside. It could mean the difference between your life and death.

My Maternal Grandmother was called Mama Bennie by all her grands and great-grands. She was the mother of fourteen children, 7 boys and 7 girls. My mother is her third daughter, is her name sake, and is her 9th child. My mother has 6 older brothers and they were not used to little sisters. They nicknamed her baby sister. She is still called sis by her siblings.
They say the best things in life are free and I have to agree with whoever "they" are. Monday, yesterday, was a good example of that. My husband and I had several errands uptown. We started off with at the Flowers Bread store. The manager there gave me a 24 pack of the sesame seed jumbo hamburger buns like used for a Burger King Whopper. Tueday all senior citizens get a free loaf of fresh bread. I was on that side of town and wouldn't be back on Tuesday. I told her that was my senior citizen gift for the week since I wasn't going to be back on Tuesday. That was a good

OK Dale, you asked for this story...I am not really proficient in story writing but here is my experience with Pineapple!
After Katrina we were in a 1 room place for 5 months. Everything was dead around us and I had lost all of my plants. Well after a couple of months I really wanted to grow something!!! We did not even know where we were going to live but I knew I wanted to grow something!
And there it was over on the cabinet....a PINEAPPLE!!! The temptation I could not take....so I chopped off the top and it all began....
Today was a beautiful warm sunny day in Florence, South Carolina. My husband and I went to his aunts house today to help celebrate her eighty third birthday. That is not what my story is about. We road to the farm and went to see the water level of the creek at the back of the property. You can tell we don't have much to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Often we see turkeys and other animals of the wild. But today we were in for a treat.

Every spring, the central part of the country (Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Iowa and Texas) known as Tornado Alley braces itself for the onslaught of bad weather. Between March and May, this part of the country faces the danger of tornadoes.
Texas typically receives the most tornadoes. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but I suspect a large part of that reason is that it's common for the warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico to collide with cooler dry air from the Rocky Mountains or further north.
